Experience months of couples therapy in the span of a few days.

You’re ready to try something new to improve your relationship.

intensive couples therapy can help.

Intensive couples therapy, sometimes referred to as couples retreats or marriage intensives, are an alternative to traditional weekly couples therapy.

A couples intensive is a several-hour block of time set aside to focus on the work your relationship needs. without the interruption of wrapping it up after 50-60 minutes and moving on with your week.

Intensive couples therapy is a concentrated “dose” of therapy that accelerates your progress. You could experience months of couples therapy in only a handful of days.

Because of the condensed nature of intensives, many couples find that they are able to get into deeper issues faster with this model. Because of that, change and relief are experienced sooner.

Sound like you?

You and your partner are looking for a process that will propel your relationship forward.

Progress is slow in weekly couples therapy. Just when you start to unpack things, your 50-minutes is up. You wish there was more time.

You and your spouse have done discernment counseling and you’ve chosen to pursue therapy. But, your marriage is in the relationship emergency room and needs treatment — fast.

Here’s what we’ll do together

Couples intensives give you momentum.

Some couples find that a weekly couples therapy schedule doesn’t work for them. There are too many scheduling conflicts with work, childcare, or travel.

Perhaps you’re in a long-distance relationship and you can’t find a therapist licensed in both states. Being in the same room for couples therapy is important to you.

Or, maybe you and your partner can’t seem to gain traction and momentum in weekly couples therapy sessions that only last 50 minutes. You just want to make and sustain your progress faster.

During a couples intensive, you and your partner will finally have time to…

  • Process longstanding grievances and understand how these old wounds have affected your relationship so that you can repair.

  • Move past betrayal and rebuild trust.

  • Get out of the endless fighting cycle. Learn and practice new communication skills to help you have more productive conversations and bring peace back into your home.

  • Start creating shared habits and routines that strengthen your bond and help you function as a team.

Go from this

“You never listen to me!”

“I only did this because you did that!”

Yelling, slamming doors, or threatening divorce during disagreements.

Eye-rolling, sarcasm, name-calling.

To this

Talk about your emotions and express a need.

Take responsibility and own up to your behavior without blaming your partner.

Take a break and self-soothe when emotions are running high.

Validating your partner’s perspective even if you have a different perspective.

What Can We Expect From a Couples Intensive?

The pre-intensive: The pre-intensive is four and a half hours in length. I will meet with you as a couple and each of you individually and assess your individual and relationship strengths and challenges. You will complete a relationship screening survey that is made up of 480 questions assessing the current health of your relationship. Your pre-intensive and relationship survey will give us a defined roadmap of what to work on in the couples intensive.

The intensive: The intensive is where the interventions happen! The interventions will directly relate to your goals for your relationship, as well as the challenges identified during the assessment phase. To give you an idea of what to expect, some sample schedules are below.

Pre-intensive:
1 day, 4.5 hours — $1,800
Intensive:
1 intensive day, 6 therapy hours — $2,500
2 intensive days, 9 therapy hours — $3,500
3 intensive days, 13 therapy hours — $5,000

The intensive length can be customized based on your circumstances and needs.

Couples intensives are a good fit if…

You’re willing to take a few days off work or a long weekend and make change happen.

Are open to feedback and changing your behavior during the intensive and after.

Are interested in the science and research behind what makes relationships last.

Want additional post-intensive resources for learning like books, blog articles, and podcasts.

Couples intensives are not a good fit if

You’re not willing to work on your behavior and you’d rather blame your spouse for the problems.

There is ongoing domestic violence or infidelity you aren’t willing to be honest about.

One or both of you are strongly considering divorce. Look at discernment counseling instead.

You are set on divorce and are only looking for mediation or coparenting support.
